SHELTER
Currently, the Center of Hope has 52 beds for men. Women and families reside in separate dorm rooms in the facility. Each dorm contains bunk beds, lockers and bathroom facilities with showers. Linens and toiletries are provided and laundry facilities are on site. Breakfast and dinner are served in the dining room. A bag lunch is provided for the residents to take with them as they go to look for employment, work or school. The Shelter Program does require participants to be drug and alcohol free.
LIFE SKILLS
This program is designed to assist current residents of The Salvation Army Center of Hope in finding permanent housing. It is a six month program that will help them develop a financial plan and teach them life skills that will assist them in maintaining housing. Classes are offered on-site seven days per week being taught by Cape Fear Community College Professors, Community Partners, Volunteers and Staff. Life Skills participants are required to attend classes, volunteer in the community and meet with a Case Manager.
SOUP LINE
A hot meal is served daily at 6:00pm to anyone this is hungry. No ID or other documentation is required.
EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE
Assistance is provided to residents of Bladen, Brunswick, Columbus, New Hanover and Pender counties when an unexpected emergency situation creates a loss of income. Such situations include, but are not limited to, house fires, natural disasters, loss of employment, and medical emergencies. Assistance may include utility or rental/mortgage payments, case management, furniture, food and/or clothing.
FAMILY STORE VOUCHERS
The Salvation Army operates three Family Stores stocked with donations of clothing, furniture and household items. These items are not only offered for sale but are also given to those who are seeking emergency assistance. Fire/disaster victims are able to receive clothing, furniture and household items. Clients may apply for clothing assistance every six months. Family Store profits go to support The Salvation Army Center of Hope.
WOOD LOT
From December through February the Wood Lot program provides free firewood to families in need that heat and/or cook with fire wood. Low income and disabled individuals may call for an appointment.
